The club was formed in June 2000 to enhance the enjoyment of owning a Lamborghini and to give enthusiasts an opportunity to meet on a social level. Club membership is by invitation only and it is run in a very unstructured way.
We now have around 40 members with a reasonable spread of cars including a few Espadas, Jalpas and Urracos, with the majority being Diablos, Countachs and Murciélagos plus two Miuras and an LM. We believe that there are many more Lamborghinis tucked away in sheds and garages, and would welcome any info on the missing Countach L400 (blue) and any Islero or Jarama that may still be in the country.
The present members are almost all entrepeneures and in contrast to many other select motor clubs can best be described as friendly and laid back and it is this attitude that sets the tone for the way the club is managed.
The membership fee is set at a nominal R150 and events are on a pay-as-you-go basis, although almost if not all gatherings are normally sponsored.
The club has strong and reciprocal links with Automobili Lamborghini SpA as well as the local South African agent, Lamborghini Johannesburg and the service supplier Carello Auto near Kyalami.
Surprisingly although Lamborghinis are some of the most exotic and extroverted cars ever made, the owners are private people and membership details are not provided to any other third party nor are full manes used in the newsletter.
Lamborghini owners are busy people and club events are considered more for the quality than quantity and 5 or 6 events per year is probably ideal. There is a strong link to motor racing in the club as members race in Formula Ford and in the Porsche Cup so Kyalami or Swartkops feature in the calendar, and these track days are family orientated. We also hold Sunday breakfasts at appropriate or worthwhile venues.
